Many times in the course of an MLM career you will hear that functions are where major decisions are made. I've always promoted that fact. I've always tried to attend a minimum of three major events each year. Ideally I will get to at least one regional event hosted by the leaders of the organization, one local rally or training, and the company's National Event. The events usually focus on product information and business development techniques and tools. There are motivational moments too where we learn to develop and improve ourselves and see others who have made advancements in their lives. Another aspect of events, is that they provide a social setting among breaks to get to know and talk to company and organizational leaders as well as others at various stages of their independent business careers. It is a chance to talk one on one with others, just like yourself, who have made that breakthrough in their life. Often times major announcements take place that might take a while to filter down to the folks who weren't there and it's difficult to duplicate the sensation of hearing some of those announcements first hand.
Stimulating the mind and the spirit, group and company events are like a lifeline, especially if you might be one of the first ones in your area to begin building a business with a particular company. Imagine being a sales or service representative for a growing international corporation in traditional industry and only having your catalog, a telephone and a computer to run your business. How long do you think you could remain enthused about your work not knowing the people behind the scenes. Sure, in this age of advancing computer and internet technology we can sit down at a keyboard and monitor to transfer files, speak one on one or to groups and give presentations but humans have one inherent need that these mediums cannot fulfill. It is the need for personal relationships. While all these technological wonders allow these relationships to form, the strongest bonds come from being able to physically shake a hand, share a hug, hear a tone inflection as it is spoken instead of how some electronic gadget transports it. Nothing takes the place of relating in person.
This past weekend our organization had a function in Kansas. I live 450 miles away yet make that drive because I know the benefits of being there in person. I planned to be in attendence from the time it was announced at the meeting I attended this past spring. Something unforeseen came up and forced me to alter my schedule. Right up to the last conceivable day I was calculating ways to get there but alas, I couldn't get free early enough to make the drive. I wasn't happy and I was Jonesin'. I really wanted to be there. The good news is the National event is less than 60 days away and I will be there for that.
Do you remember me mentioning how major announcements are often made in advance to attendees of functions? Well after contacting my the leaders of our organization and advising them I wasn't going to get there as planned and forward me copies of anything that they think I'd find useful. They assured me they understood and given my history knew I'd be there if I could. Then I got the bad news..."Don't think there is anything new in print, but we are making a major announcement. We will be letting the cat out of the bag (to everyone else) on Wednesdays call."
Aaaaaaaargh! Wednesday was 6 days away! Don't bet against me being on that teleconference.
Do you have a function or major event coming up? If you've been to them before I'm sure you'll be there. If you haven't... Get Thee to a Meeting!
