Is everything you do successful? For most if not all of us the answer is probably, No. I'd wager that even those who surround themselves with all things positive and live their lives by the Laws of Attraction have days that unfold differently than they planned. I know I do. So why is it that so many people, despite the problem, complication, failure, or exhaustive effort shake it off and keep moving forward while others seem stopped in their tracks feeling doomed and diminished?
Every minute of our life is about choice or reaction. In reality it is all choice, subconscious or conscious. Reaction is the choice made for you subconsciously. It doesn't rationalize. It knows no logic. It is a pre-prorammed response. It is the result of previous choices and stimuli we have received from others. Nearly all the choices are relegated to the subconscious because the next choice stands before us almost instantaneously. Those that move forward easily have trained themselves to understand that. It's OK to have an event that doesn't equate with our intended result. Henry Ford once said, "Even a mistake may turn out to be the one thing necessary to a worthwhile achievement." The successful people will realize that. It is not the end all, it is merely a step in the process. Successful and positive people are prepared to take it one step further if necessary. Note the last two words.
Ford also said, "Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently." How great is that? A chance to create a new ending is certainly something to be thankful for. Is that the reaction from your subconscious? Are you thankful or is your initial reaction a negative one? If it is the latter you must then make the conscious effort to assess and move forward. You must respond and not react if your current subconscious programming is one of negative emotion. So before you strike out in search of your new ending to replace the one you didn't want look back at the past event and pull out a positive to carry forward and work to reprogram your subconscious.
If you remember at the end of a previous paragraph I told you to note the two words "if necessary". As you continue to make these conscious decisions you slowly reprogram your subconscious until its reaction is to essentially hand the decision back to the conscious mind! It says, "Here conscious mind, find something you can use out of all this. I've got other reactions to make."
So put the "Be-Moaning" aside and search for the Be Thankful. The easiest way to reprogram your mind is to live in gratitude. Melody Beattie wrote one of the most powerful passages that exemplifies this. It reads:
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."
When I first read this I thought Wow! I wonder who she is? It didn't take long to find out she is one of the most widely read self-help authors in the area of co-dependency. It doesn't matter what you are co-dependent on, freeing yourself from it involves responding with a conscious decision rather than surrendering to a pre-programmed reaction until such time as there is a reprogrammed reaction. That's why I consider it relevant to this topic. Living in a state of gratitude automatically places you in a positive position. You can't erase negative programming in a negative state. It is one place where two negatives cannot make a positive.
Take a minute to learn how to begin the process in your life with a little exercise. Think of a few things that have happened recently that brought you down or wasn't the result you wanted and bemoaned the result. Write it down. Then follow it with a thought of gratitude. Here's a passage I found by one of the worlds most famous authors, Anonymous! Use it as an example.
Be Thankful
Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary
Because it means you've made a difference.
It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.
GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.
