The View From This Side of MLM

Setting Your Sites on the Top?
Back to Full Blog

You have a goal to hit the top recognition level in your company. That's fantastic! We all should have lofty goals. But how are you going to get there? You know that the Jewel Encrusted Titanium Crown requires 4 Titanium Crown representatives in your group so that's what you're out to get. But how do you get those? Well you have to become a Titanium Crown yourself which means you promoted 5 Diamond Headbands who each have Three Ruby Belt Buckles... Get the picture?

You have to achieve rank advancement just like the ones that are there now. The simplest way to do that is focusing on the first requirement in the chain. You always have to take the first step before the second and the second before the third, etc. Does a motorcycle daredevil go right out and announce he's going to jump 20 busses through a flaming hoop and line up 20 busses? Of course not.

First he or she learns how to jump the first bus. Then he a second is added... Oh! Guess what? Along the way he will probably fail a few times. You may say, well then he or she didn't study enough before hitting the ramp flying. That may be true but how long do you have to spend studying before you take action? You can plot all the strategies you want but until you live the moment they are just marks on paper and words spoken. He or she learns the basic steps and goes out there and either does it successfully or gets their ego and a few body parts bruised and try again. Sound a little familiar? Well, hopefully you didn't get any body parts bruised by your prospects.

That daredevil found out that occasionally the challenge says NO! Maybe his or her speed was off or they timed it wrong, the wind wasn't right, the bike sputtered, the bus wasn't in the right place or any number of variables. Do they quit because they just can't count on it to go right every time? Whatever the case, they work until they succeed and then move on to adding another bus and start the process all over again. Just because it finally goes right doesn't mean the next bus will either but they see themselves making that jump successfully and they will then glance at that vision of 20 busses and flaming hoops and realize that they must work on the next goal, the next bus. They see themselves accomplishing that next step but accept the reality that it may take a few tries. When you get it though, you are that much closer to the big event.

Your business will operate similarly so set your goals accordingly. Have a plan to success. Map out your level of achievements. Then crank up the bike and engage the clutch. In other words, take action. You can't get three people or $500 dollars sales volume or 2000 points until you get the first one. You can't become a millionaire without first becoming a hundred thousandaire and you can't earn six figures until you've earned five and so on down the line. When is the last time you got a raise from $ 3,500 per month to $10,000? If you hit that $10K level you did it one raise, one promotion at a time. Maybe you'll have to alter the plan along the way. That's OK. Some steps you will complete in a hurry and others may take longer. Remember those variables that are beyond your control.

The only thing you can control successfully is you. Are you going to study the steps and hit the ramp or are you going to keep studying and creating the next variable in your mind and then study how to overcome that? Learn the basics and get started. The more you do it the better you will become but it will always be one step, one bus at a time with a few variables and spills likely along the way. Perfect conditions rarely exist. If you are persistent and consistent you will achieve that ultimate goal.

Go hit the ramp!
